MLM Success Tips: What Makes Us Lose Focus?

MLM Success Tips: What Makes Us Lose Focus?

In the early hours of Saturday morning I arrived at a friends house after a big night out. To be honest, me and the Missus were drunk as hell! (ha) Unfortunately during this drunken stooper, guess what? I dropped my beloved blackberry and cracked the screen! DRAMA!!!

I know it is sad, but I check that thing like, every 30 seconds, no joke! Anyone that knows me well will confirm that I am a gadget freak!

But here’s the thing…..

The last two days I have had some real productivity without it. I have focused on my MLM success plan and have checked my emails maybe twice a day instead of 100s of times and have focused on what I had to do more. I have learned a big lesson here…….

…..The Biggest Distraction Is Email!

When you are trying to build your home business it is hard to focus on one thing because you are bombarded by emails from other marketers trying to get your attention with their “MLM success tips”. I know because I am one of them (ha)!

So, if you want to get some real results put the distractions aside and focus on your MLM success plan and one thing that works well for you and ramp it up!

Forget about chasing every new “buzz” product that comes on to the market, forget the latest home based business leads generation fad.

What I have learned is, these things go in full circle One month people are saying SEO is the hot thing, then PPC, then media buying. The newbie marketer ends up with a hard drive full of product and minus dollars!

So the moral of the story and today’s installment of MLM success tips is, Stay Focused people! ;)

What Is Your Biggest Distraction?

  • Hey Wayne,

I have to admit I am the same way. I don't keep my phone on me most of the day, but every time I walk close to my vehicle, I check my email. I can't help it. It's like it calls to me. And in some cases it's the only exposure to marketing I get all day.

The problem is when it carries over into my time I set aside for marketing. I try to focus on the task at hand, and then comes the blackberry beep. I have to look. I need to look. Then I type out some elaborate text with my thumbs, even with the computer in front of me.

Saying it like that, now I think I might be crazy. Thanks for the heads up.

Get drunk and drop my iPhone... thats the lesson here right?..lol

I'm a email/aweber (hey i like watching leads roll in!)/fb addict.... I've had to ban myself from all of the above while i'm working.

Amazing that the very tools you use can also slow you down.

    Thanks for sharing,
    Matt
  • Hey Wayne,

Probably the best thing you can do to stop your inbox being clogged up is to unsubscribe from all of those marketers selling you their stuff (except for you, of course :D ). You only need to follow 2 or 3 industry gurus, not every marketer you come across.

I hope your not too upset about the Blackberry though.

  • Hey Wayne,

Sounds like we may have to perform an intervention and send you to Blackberrys Anonymous (LOL)

I've gotta admit, I check my email WAY too often, too...Thanks for the timely reminder!
  • Hi Wayne,

Heavy drinking can teach us lessons for sure LOL, fortunatly, your lesson was a good one.

I've stopped leaving my e-mail open and close all unnecessary tabs when working.

It does make me more productive.

    Sorry about the Blackberry!

  • Wayne,

    LOL. DRAMA!! Cracked berry.....

My biggest distraction is Facebook email specifically. Email one person. Email another. Oh wait, the person I first emailed replied. Get that reply done. Vicious cycle!

Looking forward to seeing you around.

    Mark
  • Sorry about your Blackberry!

Your tip about focus is right on. It's amazing what can be accomplished when there are no distractions.

    Have a great day!

  • Hi Wayne,

Isn't it funny how a 'drama' like that can put us back on the right track?

Last week I was sick and I hadn't checked my email since Wednesday. When I finally got out of bed Monday afternoon, I realized that the world hadn't stopped because of it. Major surprise? No, not really!

We need to focus on what's really important ... Our health. Our family. And those activities that make us money. Period.

Cheers, and have a great day!

    Ilka

P.S. I'm really sorry about your Blackberry.
  • Hey Ilka,

Sorry to hear you were sick, I guess the great thing is you found out what is really important. You are right, out health and family is far more important!

By the way, the blackberry is back in action ;)

Thanks for passing by my friend...
  • Hey Wayne,

Isn't amazing how not having this sort of distraction can do for your success. I recently had a similar experience where I could not stay focused for the life me.

Sometimes letting go or disconnecting, really does work.

I can so relate to this post. Thanks for sharing my friend...

  • Hey Jerome,

It was probably a blessing in disguise, a valuable lesson has been learned for me.

Thanks for passing by my friend.
  • Have you sorted you Distractberry now?

I learned a while ago to focus on my task at hand by switching everything off.
I also learned this by accident. My internet was down and my Distractberry was forgotten at my mothers house. I wen told school and hand wrote some of my ideas down and got through twice if not 3 times as much work than I usually do! MASSIVE LESSON!!

    Dwayne
  • (ha) "Distractberry" - I like that Dwayne!

Yeah, got it back this afternoon - so back to reduced productivity tomorrow! :)
  • I am right there with you on the email thing. I am trying to limit myself to twice a day, but it is hard. Sucks about your crackberry.

    Eric McMillan
  • Finally, someone that is in the same boat! (ha)

Yeah I know it sucks, but got it back this afternoon (Yey!).

    Thanks for passing by Eric.
  • Hey Wayne,

I can imagine how you felt after checking your phone with a crack screen. OUCH!

If you do a lot of work on the computer. Then you know that you can have all kinds of tabs open in your browser and still get distracted just like checking your phone.

Discipline has to kick in soon or later. Otherwise, you will feel the pinch.

    Chat with you later...
    Josh
  • Oh yes - The guy that invented browser tabs has a lot to answer for (ha)

But, you are right, it is all about discipline.

    Thanks for passing by Josh.

    Hey Wayne,

Email can be monster if you let it become one!

I check email twice a day and I have to say my rule is to delete 80% of it. Funny thing is I never miss anything.

    Have a great day!

    Cheers
    Marcus

  • Hey Marcus,

I have to respect you for deleting 80%, I am the worlds biggest hoarder!

Honestly, I won't sleep, thinking I might need it one day! I know its a sickness.

I know, from reading your blog you are very organized and have time management well sorted, I am taking notes my friend ;)
  • Hey Wayne,

Yeah, when I stopped checking my email so many times a day I became A LOT more productive!

If you don't learn from someone else, you'll learn the hard way on your own. lol

    Have a productive day! ;)
    Susanna
  • Oh for sure, I am the guy that learns the hard way everytime! :)

    Thanks for passing by Susanna
