List Building Techniques

The biggest recipe for success in home based business is to build a mailing list. This is effectively the blood of your business.

Even with the old school list building tips that are used offline, there is still a huge emphasis on the power of a list and how you have to build a mailing list! Not sure about you but that was drummed into my head from day one network marketing training 101!

How to Build a Mailing List For Free!

If you are a regular to my blog, you may have guessed that I like to drive targeted traffic for free. In my opinion it is one of the most effective and cheap ways to do it.

However, once you build a solid foundation with free traffic, you can start to explore paid methods or outsourcing to scale up what is working for you, but that is whole new blog post in itself. Anyway, the best way to build a mailing list is to follow these points:

  • Identify A Niche Market
  • Discover Their Needs
  • Give Them an Irresistible Offer
  • Collect The Lead

Identify A Niche Market

Using MLSP taught me these valuable points. If you going for home based business leads you can find a market of struggling network marketers that are crying out for help to make a success online.

Do not make the mistake that a lot of newbies make, they go to the Google keyword tool and put in “MLM” and try to target that Niche, that is a monster of a Niche - To be honest it is not a niche, it is a whole market!

Discover Their Needs

Once you have discovered a Niche, find out what words they use and how they think. This is important for your approach with your content. If you try to create content that does not make sense to them you will be wasting your time, are you with me?

Give Them an Irresistible Offer

The next step is to create an irresistible offer. This is something that your niche will really appreciate and be willing to part with their contact details for. This is why your research in the beginning stages of these list building techniques is important.

If you understand what they are after, you can create a free report or training series that will fulfill that need. This needs to be your “lead bait“.

Collect The Lead

Finally, you need to put all of this into a lead capture page that will collect their name and email. You can either create your own or use an attraction marketing system such as MLSP that will do the hard work for you.

Spoon Feed Them Info

Obviously you need to create the traffic to the page once you are up and running. Again, this is where your research comes in again. If you want to know how to build a mailing list, you need to create content that will answer their questions. this can be through articles, videos or blog posts. to be honest there are various more, but those are the ones I concentrate on, and I advise that you stick with something that works for you.

Create the content, place a link to your lead capture page to build a mailing list. Then when you have them on the list, “spoon feed” them knowledge that you have gathered from your research stage to keep them begging for more info and doing business with you.

    Hey Wayne,

Clearly your a pro at doing this :D

You know its funny, when you start in a mlm most uplines will tell you to write out a list, but they hardly ever teach you how to actually build it.

    Thanks for being different,

  • The Power Is In The List

This was the 1st thing I remember learning in NM.

Love the way you break down the simplicity of this list building process. In reality it doesn't have to be complex.

Its also common sense to do Free 1st, then progress onto Paid methods. With Free methods you learn a lot more about the industry (in my opinion). This of course makes you more valuable!

  • Hey Wayne,

I love the picture with this article! haha

Very important message. You laid it out nicely, step by step.

  • Hey Wayne,

Great info on building your list. Depending on your niche, you can also offer a free consultation or discount coupon, too.

I like to call it a "bribe" or "making them an offer they can't refuse."
  • Derek, that sounds like a great idea. Everyone loves a bribe :)
