Another way of getting free links is by creating videos of your content. Video is a very quick and easy way to drive a boat load of traffic. The obvious site to focus on with video is YouTube. However, do not just put all your efforts into YouTube, because there is a lot of traffic that can be syphoned from other video sharing sites.
