How to Build Your List and Keep Them Interested!

Are you looking for answers on how to build your list? Well the fact is, it is not that hard if you know some crucial secrets to make life easier and have the desire to succeed.

I am sure that you have heard many people say - “The money is in the list”. Well, that is so true. Whether you are building your business the old conventional way or super fast online you need a list. But why is that? Well, simple really - Every time you get a visitor you have to work hard to drive traffic to get them there. So you have to make sure that you can make the most out of them.

This is even more critical if you are doing paid advertising, every dollar you spend is crucial. To be honest, even free marketers need this badly because we have to give up our precious time to get traffic, and in many cases that is more valuable.

So, how to build your list? and how do you keep people interested?

You Need Bait!

For you to build an email list, you need to have a very tempting offer for your prospects. As simple as it sounds for someone to enter their first name and email address in a box, it is not always that easy to convince them to part with their information. These days we are inundated with people asking for opt-ins so you need to have some good bait.

This may be a free gift or some valuable information. Either way you need to have a squeeze page to collect their information. Alternatively you can have an opt in box on your blog for your readers. Which one you choose is a larger debate. In all honesty I use both. I have a dedicated lead capture page where I send my article readers. Also have multiple lead capture boxes on this very blog, case you never noticed! (ha)

Building A Relationship With Your List

Once you learn how to build a mailing list, you need to remember your list is people, not just email addresses. They are not obligated to stay on your list. So how do you keep them interested?

Well, you need to keep in contact with them regularly. Not just that you need to be yourself and offer them valuable information. This is where you can kill two birds with one stone (I know, it is a crazy saying!). You can create valuable blog posts and send your email list to your blog. This means you get to offer them great information as well as increasing your blog traffic.

    Talk about the money is in the list. Once upon a time I had an online business building computers. I never set up an opt-in box or did anything with a newsletter.

    Knowing what I know now, I feel like kicking myself for never following up with those customers. There is no telling how much money I left on the table.
  • Yeah Chris, I guess we all live and learn - I had an online business back in the day and we generated a ridiculously large amount of visits per month - However we didn't have a clue about list building and online marketing back then it spiraled from an offline business - well hey, you live and you learn!

    Really good stuff here. I think most people are finally getting the list building idea, but they are all offering the same advice or ebook. I am working right now to come up with some different stuff focused on different areas of online marketing that people can choose what they need instead of a one size fits all approach. I will still have a giveaway that is an all around, but am trying to get more focused.

    Maybe I'm wrong about that, but guess I'll find out soon enough.

    Nice post Mr Vassell. A valuable lesson to learn here as a lot of people don't continue to give value or build relationships once they get a lead. Then they will blast this list randomly with the next best "make me rich in 10 seconds deal" and then wonder why everyone hits the unsubscribe button.
