Now I am sure you have all heard of the film mission impossible, but what I am focusing on today is something that I see happening, and I want to make sure you don’t fall into this trap.

The Problem….

If you are trying to rank a piece of content in the search engines as you know, in many cases you need “quality” backlinks. Now, whilst this is very important, especially for high competition terms, it is not the only issue.

Make Life Easier With An On Page SEO Checklist

What you will find is, if you optimize your on page SEO factors first you will actually need “less” backlinks to rank. Why is this? Well, basically your content will be more relevant.

Let us not forget, that is what search engines want, relevant content!

What Should Be On Your On Page SEO Checklist?

Before I get specific, let me confess, there are actually many factors to consider. Maybe more than I or you will know. However I am always a big fan of going for the “Big Wins”.

Focus on these “big wins” to get the maximum potential from your SEo efforts:

On Page SEO Checklist Factor - Title

The Title tag is a big factor in your SEO battle, so always make sure that you include your keyword(s) in this tag by all means. If you are smart you will use the All in one SEO plugin to make life easier to achieve this.

On Page SEO Checklist Factor - URL

Another big on page SEO factor. If you have your keyword in the URL of your page it will appear to be more relevant. If you are trying to rank a wordpress post, this is easy to achieve. Just make sure that your “Permalinks” are setup correctly

On Page SEO Checklist Factor - Keyword Density

This is a on page SEO factor that is usually misunderstood. The idea to include your main keywords, not “stuff” them. Ideally you want to go for 1-2% keyword density. However I would highly recommend that you use LSI keywords to increase your relevancy. If you are not sure what that is check this out => Article Marketing Strategy With LSI

  • Some good advice here Wayne,

SEO is far more important that it gets the credit for. Dealing with keywords is one of the biggest problems I see. Too many people pick keywords they can't fit natuarally into a blog post.If I am really after a broad term, and I need short and long tails to make it happen, but the most relevant to google are not natural for copy, I just add those as silo's on my site and link out from a link at the bottom of a capture page. That way Google can find it, and credit my site, but most of my readers won't bore their selves with it.

  • Hey Wayne,

Good points my friend, i'm a big fan of "all in one seo" pluggin, makes life way easier.

    Thanks,
    Matt

  • Hi Wayne,

Thanks for the great tips. Ultimately relevancy the content is fundamental to how well it will get ranked, so a good idea is to look at the content of the top performers as well.

    Thanks,
    Wayne

  • Hi Wayne,

Great points, as always! While I'm getting better with all this SEO stuff, somehow it now takes me longer to write my blog posts. Arrgghhh! :) I guess there's a trade off if you want to do things the best you can.

But... once I have all this SEO stuff down pat, I know I'll be faster.

Thanks for sharing all your wisdom!

    Have an awesome week!

    Ilka

  • Nice post, Wayne!

I actually use a plugin (Scribe SEO) that analyzes my posts and gives me a great idea of how well I'm doing for the keyword.

I'm pretty happy with it so far.

  • This is a solid basic checklist for on page SEO. Lots of people do really well when they have a checklist to help them stay on target with the requirements. SEO can feel overwhelming and a checklist like this is sure to help.

  • Hey Kimberly,

Yeah better to get the basics down and not get bogged down.

    Thanks for passing by.

  • Hey Wayne
That's a good list, but don't forget the meta data or the stuff that shows up under your headline in a search listing. Having your keywords in the title, meta data, meta tags, and URL will definitely give you a leg up on your competitors if they aren't doing all of these.

    Good stuff,
    Eric

  • Hey nice addition there Eric.

    Thanks for that brother.

  • Hi Wayne,

Great SEO insight! Search engine optimization is an easy concept to grasp but when faced with increasing strategies it can become intimidating unless each is broken down step by step.

I'm aiming to improve my keyword density; thanks for the tip!

    Ryan

  • Hey Nice one Ryan.

Anytime, thanks for passing by my friend.

  • Hey Wayne,

I'm a big fan of checklists. So using a checklist for SEO is a great idea. I haven't use one for this, however, I probably should do so.

    Thanks for passing this on.

Now it's time for me to take action and create my checklist.

    Have a great day,
    Jerome Ratliff

  • Cool Jerome - Yeah good idea.

    Thanks for passing by.

  • I think sometimes we (I) make it harder than it is because it is something new and "appears" to be complex when in reality it is not.

Thanks for the great info as ususal!
    Twila

  • Hey Twila,

I agree, it really does not have to be that hard.

    Thanks for passing by.

  • Hey Wayne,

I just read Josh's post for the day and they do go great together. Awesome stuff.

I'm glad you're covering these SEO topics as they can be confusing at first. Who am I kidding, they can be confusing for a LONG time! lol

    Hope you enjoyed your weekend!
    Susanna

  • Nice One Susanna,

I think they can be as complex as you want to make it, I also say to keep it simple and just improve as you go.

Thanks for passing by my friend.

  • Hey Wayne,

Freat job in making this very understandable for individuals. This ia a topic I see a lot of new marketers struggle with. What's cool, today I wrote about how simple it is to creat relevant and high ranking backlinks. Goes in hand with this awesome post.
