Let me be up front and say that building backlinks is a boring task, and you may feel that you are losing your mind when you are doing it.

However backlinks are an important part of this search engine optimization starter guide. You see, the simple basics of SEO has not changed in years.

It boils down to this - you need quality content and backlinks to provide “votes” for your content. Simple right? Well, not always!

It Is Not How Much Backlinks You Get - It Is The “Quality”

For this search engine optimization starter guide I want to make sure that I get across that it is more important to get quality backlinks than a large quantity, are you with me?

So what are quality backlinks? Well, when you are building backlinks, you need to look out for websites that have high “authority”. This means that they have established trust with the search engines.

Siphoning Link Juice!

This “authority” is sometimes referred to as PR (Page Rank). You need to make sure that you are building backlinks from websites that have high PR to siphon some of their link “juice”.

This will pass onto your website valuable “votes” of “authority” that will boost your rankings over time.

To finish off, without getting to technical, i need to let you know that the frequency that you are building backlinks is important. It has to be a consistent rate to make sure you are not penalized. So if you are building 10 high PR backlinks per day, then you need to maintain that.

  • Hey Wayne,

Backlinks are one of the most important aspects of SEO. The more you have, the better Google likes you. As long as they were built over time.

A good search for your article marketing is "high pr ezines". It will show you all the best places to submit your articles.

    Great post Wayne

    Hey Wayne,

Quick question on backlinking, are you linking to your home page? or to actual blog posts?

    Thanks,
    Matt

  • Great tips Wayne,

I recently downloaded the Keyword Spy plugin for FireFox... works like a charm!

  • Hey Derek, that sounds like another good little plugin I could do with!

    Thanks for that.

  • Hey Wayne,

That is great that you are talking about this. As an internet marketer, you are correct about the boring task of creating backlinks. But it's required!

Here is a tool I like to use since I like to work fast and not waste time. I use Firefox as my browser. I also downloaded a Google Toolbar Plugin. In this plugin it let's me know the pageranks of sites or blogs as I'm visiting them. Enjoy it!

    Chat with you later...

  • Wonderful - I love the tip Josh!

  • A good way of getting a rough idea of which site / page has a high PR is to use G oogle's page rank checker

www. prchecker. info/check_page_rank.php (take out the spaces)

It may not be exact, but it will give you a rough idea.

    Useful post Wayne
