Have you heard of LSI before? WARNING! - Wayne Is entering Geek Mode again, however this is useful!

LSI is known as Latent Semantic Indexing - Wooahh! Stop there Wayne! No, really listen it gets interesting….

Basically a lot of people feel that they have the best article marketing strategy by simply filling their content with their desired keyword. Sorry, but this is called “Keyword spamming“!

Maybe about 5-10 years ago you could get away with it, but our friend “Big G” got wise to people doing this and rumor has it they expect more from your content.

So What Exactly Is LSI then Wayne?

Well basically it is related keywords that compliment your main keyword. Lets say for example you were writing an article about “Dog Training”, instead of spamming your article with the word “Dog Training” 20 times and making “Big G” laugh at your content, you would use “Dog Training” a few times, and have similar words such as “Potty Training”, “Dog Rewarding”, etc… Are you with me?

LSI in a way proves that the content you are putting out is relevant and deserves a high position in the search engines (SERPS).

So How Do You Find These LSI Keywords For Your Article Marketing Strategy?

There are a number of ways to do this and implement it for your marketing strategy for articles:

1 - Big G’s Related Search

Simply put in your keyword and scroll to the very bottom and you will see the related results, use these as your LSI keywords for this article marketing strategy.

2 - Big G’s Free Keyword Tool

Go to the Free Keyword tool and put in your keyword. Then look at the other keyword results “sorted by relevance” - Yep, some more LSI. This is one of the best to use in article marketing strategies because you can see the search volume here.

3 - Big G Tilde Search

This bad boy is hardly talked about, and I doubt many people use it. Use the “Tilde” symbol followed by your keyword then you perform “synonym” search which will pull in LSI words. I will be honest this is not my favorite and I find it hard to pick out the LSI, but feel free to have a play.

How To Use These LSI Keywords In Your Article Marketing Strategies

Ok, once you have completed this exercise you should have your main keyword and some LSI keywords. The idea is to use all of them sparingly in your content. Ideally if you are doing a 400 word article or blog post include your main keyword at least 3 times.

Mention your LSI keywords at least 2 times each. The beauty of this is you can not only rank fro your main keyword, you can also rank fro the LSI keywords and generate traffic from multiple sources.

    Awesome advice. Honestly this is the first time I have ever seen a blog post on LSI. This info is usually for sale. Thanks for putting it out there brother.

    I like to use the online thesaurus to come up with keyword relevancy. It helps when working with broad or short tail keywords. When working with long tail keywords, it gets extremely difficult to use LSI words effectively. You have to pick the one or two most relevant keywords and use synonyms for those. The tricky part is doing in a way that makes the long tail keyword synonymous with the LSI words instead of just the broad keywords.

    That sounded more understandable in my head. But in case it wasn't I thought this was an awesome post.

    But I can also see how this helps people who "just write" on a topic -- surely some LSI keywords will pop in there by accident?

    It's like the hundred monkeys at a typewriter -- one of them will write Shakespeare (LOL)

  • (ha) - Actually that is a good point Derek, and I would say it is quite likely that you will write LSI naturally.

    When you think of it, those egg-heads at Big G designed it in such a way that it would read relevancy from naturally written text. However once we understand this, we can "make sure" we feed them the goods! :0

  • Great info on LSI. I am a little torn on it, because it is pretty hard to track the effectiveness of using LSI words, but on the same hand, I don't want to ignore them since Oogle does factor that into their algorithm some.
